The City of Lawrence requires all residential rental properties have a valid annual rental license and periodic inspections.  A property owner who does not reside within 40 miles of Lawrence must appoint a resident agent to serve on behalf of the owner.  The resident agent receives legal notices on behalf of the owner of any problems that should arise on the property.
